Pandiculation

I present to you, the Pandiculation Exercise 🙆🏻

(Seems like a made-up word, probably is)

👉This is a great one for in-between sessions, for my bodyworkers and somatic therapists out there

Apply this when you notice felt tension in your body.

  • scan your body for tension patterns if you haven’t already located an area

  • resist the urge to “straighten up” or “fix your posture.”

  • assume instead that the body has the right idea on this one, and the closest way out is through

  • instead of correction, lean into the tension by increasing the shape it might be creating

    • ex: if you’re noticing tension in your shoulders - bring them up closer to your ears

  • hold the increased contraction for a few breaths OR until you notice a big outbreath, yawn, or digestion signals

  • then, the slowest you have ever moved in your life, inch your way back to a shape that requires no effort (let the shoulders relax back down)

  • notice what changed.

That’s it, folks.

Simple as that.
