Pandiculation
I present to you, the Pandiculation Exercise 🙆🏻
(Seems like a made-up word, probably is)
👉This is a great one for in-between sessions, for my bodyworkers and somatic therapists out there
Apply this when you notice felt tension in your body.
scan your body for tension patterns if you haven’t already located an area
resist the urge to “straighten up” or “fix your posture.”
assume instead that the body has the right idea on this one, and the closest way out is through
instead of correction, lean into the tension by increasing the shape it might be creating
ex: if you’re noticing tension in your shoulders - bring them up closer to your ears
hold the increased contraction for a few breaths OR until you notice a big outbreath, yawn, or digestion signals
then, the slowest you have ever moved in your life, inch your way back to a shape that requires no effort (let the shoulders relax back down)
notice what changed.
That’s it, folks.
Simple as that.
