Write it out.

I must admit, I do not have a regular writing practice.

I want to write, and I sometimes do, but mostly I have unorganized notes in various places.

When I do get around to it, annotating my experience feels so helpful.

After jotting down notes and even drawing, I am able to gather information about my current state and place it all on a medium outside of my-self.

I can name my mood, emotions, and sensations. I make note of the posture my body is holding and whether or not I require support. I might even be able to plan my day ahead with aim towards balance.

Here’s what that practice looks like:

  1. Settle in a relatively safe space and slowly notice details my environment

  2. Observe my internal world within my current capacity

  3. Make notes of the details I noticed followed by answers to specific prompts

Journal prompts:

  • What sensations are loudest in my body at this moment?

  • Where do I notice tension?

  • What parts of me feel soft and expansive?

  • What does my minds eye think my body looks like in this moment?

  • How big are my feet, hands, and head?

  • How prominent is my back, my spine?

  • What is my current position?

  • Do I feel supported in my posture?

  • Do I notice my facial expression?

  • What is the quality of my mind in this moment?

  • How does my heart space feel?

  • Do I recognize a current emotion or mood?

  • What meaning do I make of this moment?

  • What is my relationship to my experience?

  • How is this moment different from another?

These are all questions I not only ask of myself, but my clients.

When we can be curious about our current moment with recognition that we have never been here before, we find space.

Space to process. Space to expand. Space to find joy. Space to live.
