The Good Stuff

Whether you practice somatics as an individual, with a practitioner, and/or group, the act of resourcing likely makes up a primary point of focus.

This is true for fitness routines, Yoga practices, and body-based therapeutic modalities alike. There are so many positive aspects to picking up heavy things, moving through a flow, and connecting with our body that nourishes our system, so we can engage with the challenging bits. To do hard things, we must anchor to the good; in this case, movement itself is the resource.

Resources are especially supportive when we are processing difficult-to-feel experiences.

In my training, I’ve learned that traumatic events in life create somewhat of an energetic vortex (an energy black hole, if you will) that is constantly consuming our vitality. The bigger the vortex, the more attention there is on that experience and the struggle to think or act from any other place but suffering. With the implementation of resourcing, we aim to create a counter vortex with the good stuff in order to create balance where there was disruption, or a cyclone that pulls us out of the black hole and back into life. This method not only validates our suffering but also demonstrates our ability as humans to hold both joy and pain at the same time.

Bonus! When we are well-resourced, we can continue to give our attention to the areas in life that regenerate energy because we aren’t completely depleted.

In other words, resourcing can help us reconnect with ourselves in a way that does not center on suffering, but rather acknowledges life’s hardships and points us in the direction of our joy, so we can keep going with support.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Module 1

This video answers the question: “what is a resource?”, and invites you to begin to explore name your own.

Module 2

This video answers the question “why should we bring attention to resources?”, and shares the value of a simple 5-sense exercise to determine momentary resources and state of being.

Module 3

This video answers the question of “how do we develop resources?”, and describes how a regular practice of noticing the finer details of daily experience can strengthen your tether to personal resources.

Module 4

This video answers the question of “how do we apply resources to challenges?”, and provides examples of how resourcing can support our every day experiences through coping or recovery.

This presentation also defines time, space, and energy as resources, while looking to the breath as a measure of when resource is needed. This begins to look like the act of claiming agency, establishing boundaries, and requesting support where needed.

Module 5

This video answers the question of “what are the benefits of developing a body based practice with personal resources?”, and encourages continuation of practice by integrating emotional experience with a trusted source.
